Posted on: November 1, 2018[ARCHIVED] Phone Scams Using City of Perkins Phone Number
Telephone scammers are again targeting people in our community. Phone scammers can "spoof" real phone numbers. Never give out information over the phone and legitimate agencies will never demand payment in gift cards.
Telephone scammers are again targeting people in our community. A resident recently reported being contacted by someone reporting to be a member of a Tribal Police Department and indicated they had a warrant for their arrest. The caller wanted the resident to purchase gift cards in the amount of $5,000 in exchange for not being arrested. The scammers used a fake Perkins phone number to call from.
Please do not give any information out over the phone. If anyone calls wanting money, tell them to send you something in writing and hang up. If you don’t recognize a number, it might be best not to answer and let the person leave a message. If you know the person that called, then call them back.
Scammers are also targeting the elderly and saying they are their favorite grandchild and they are in bad trouble and need money. Please do not give information over the phone.
