Customer Service Representative
(Part-Time)
The City of Perkins is accepting applications for a part-time Customer Service Representative working for various departments including City Hall, Utilities, Police Department, and Municipal Court. Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, providing exceptional customer service including answering the telephone, working the front counter, and handling monetary transactions; administrative duties such as generating/filing of reports, entering data, collecting and organizing invoices, and/or tracking payments; and other duties as assigned.
Hours & Wage: The Customer Service Representative is a part-time position working approximately 20 hours per week on average; salary range is $9.50-$10.50 per hour (based on experience). City Hall’s hours are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. – noon, and 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. daily
REQUIREMENTS:
• High school diploma or GED
• Experience in the use of computer, preferably Microsoft Word and Excel
• Three professional references (former employers, supervisors, or colleagues)
• Be able to multi-task and maintain composure in a busy work environment
• Exhibit professionalism, flexibility, and a commitment to excellence in customer service
• Speak and respond appropriately in difficult situations
• Be a self-starter; able to complete tasks as assigned unsupervised
• Be detail-oriented and able to easily transition between assignments
• Problem-solving and decision-making skills
• Ability to take initiative – do what needs to be done without being asked
• May be required to report to work to serve citizens during emergency conditions
PREFERRED:
• Prior customer service, cashier, and/or administrative experience
• One year of full-time work experience in a retail or office environment or any college or vo-tech studies
DETAILED JOB DUTIES
• Maintain confidentiality
• Provide excellent customer service in person or via telephone and answer questions regarding city policies, utilities, and general information
• Accurately handle and post monetary transactions
• Exhibit strong interpersonal skills while working with a wide variety of people including citizens, elected officials, department heads, staff, vendors, state and federal agencies, etc.
• Collect, process, and organize receipts, invoices, purchase orders, and payments
• Provide administrative support for City Hall
• Process data entry
• Keep accurate and accessible files and records
REPORTING DIRECTLY TO:
• City Clerk/Finance Director

WORKING CONDITIONS - The unavoidable, externally imposed conditions under which the work must be performed and that create hardship for the Customer Service Representative including the frequency and duration of occurrence of physical demands, environmental conditions, and demands on one’s senses and metal demands.
Physical Demands - The nature of physical effort leading to physical fatigue
Customer Service Representative will spend hours sitting and using office equipment and computers, which can cause muscle strain. The Customer Service Representative will also have to do some lifting of supplies and materials from time to time, be able to move heavy boxes, and be able to push heavy carts.
Environmental Conditions - The nature of adverse environmental conditions affecting the incumbent
The Customer Service Representative is located in a busy, open area office. The Customer Service Representative is faced with regular interruptions and must work with others on a regular basis.
Sensory Demands - The nature of demands on the senses
The Customer Service Representative must spend hours in intense concentration. The Customer Service Representative must also spend hours working on the computer entering data, which requires attention to detail and high levels of accuracy. General office working conditions: exposure to noise; ability to work in a stressful environment.
Mental Demands - Conditions that may lead to mental or emotional fatigue
There are a number of deadlines associated with this position, which may cause stress. The Customer Service Representative must also deal with a wide variety of people on various, sometimes challenging, issues.
